Jewelry Making at J.H. Breakell & Co.

We design and produce our jewelry here in our Newport workshop. We also feature the work of a few other local craftsmen whose names are noted with their jewelry in our catalog and website. Although modern innovations like electricity make the work easier and faster, the techniques and methods we use are basically unchanged from those used by silversmiths centuries ago.

Many of our designs are made using the lost wax casting method which produces perfect replicas from an original handmade model. Others, like the Hammered Cuff and Married Metal Bracelets, our Baby Spoon and the Byzantine Chain Bracelet are cut, hammered, forged and formed entirely by hand. Every piece is carefully polished by hand-we never use plating or lacquer.
